EAT: The Gilbert Scott, Kings Cross
Is there anything better than Sunday brunch in the summer?
The sun is shining, you roll out of bed in a leisurely fashion, put something pretty on to wear and head out. I met my lovely friend Lisa for brunch at The Gilbert Scott at the St Pancras hotel – and we marvelled at the amazing ceiling:
Then we shared ‘The Gilbert’ – a full breakfast with some amazing baked beans and black pudding, and a very decadent Dorset crab Eggs Benedict. We were still a little hungry after that, so we had some cheese and a delicious glass of red dessert wine. Yum:
We thought The Gilbert Scott was a nice place for brunch – it was a little quiet, service was a bit old-fashioned and the brunch menu is pretty limited (five dishes, three drinks) – but the food was good, the pace was slow and relaxing and our waitress was friendly and knowledgeable. Plus, it’s in the most beautiful location ever:
After that we fancied a spot of sunshine – so headed outside to the nearby Betjeman Arms ( a fairly ordinary pub, with lame service, but a great terrace so we forgave it). And settled down for a glass of wine and a natter:
As well as some messing around with Instagram:
