EAT: La Cocotte, South End Green, NW3
Oh wow, the cutest little French restaurant ever? After the launch of the new look White Horse, we were happily tipsy on Tempranillo, and headed over the road (literally) for last orders at La Cocotte. A little French restaurant that I have walked past for the last seven years – and never gone into.
Not anymore people! We ate snails – lots and lots of the little delicious critters, all covered in garlic and parsely butter, mopped up with very good French bread; and then steak – perfectly cooked and full of flavour. We drank two glasses of very, very good house wine at £3.95 (I haven’t drunk house wine since 1999) and gossiped about the lovely night we’d had. And we spoke lots of bad French to the LOVELY staff. Then we paid £40. In total. For dinner. It was brilliant.
Website is here with some terrible stock images of cassoulet, but don’t let that put you off. This place is totally worth a visit and the kind of little local gem you’ll be so pleased you found. I know I am.
