LOVE: Summer spirit in Camden

Have you been to the Camden Beach at the Roundhouse yet? For some truly inspired summer fun it’s a very cool place to go.

Situated on the sunny terrace atop the Roundhouse, it’s a good sized space with lovely, golden sand (and plenty of it), deskchairs, a Tiki bar all made of bamboo, cocktails, beers, bottles of cheap rose and the kind of burgery hotdoggy food you’d expect. The atmosphere is pure fun, and with sunny weather like we’ve been having it’s busy and buzzy.

There are some kinks to be worked out – they need more deckchairs, the queue at the bar looked horrifying when I was there, and the queue to get in anytime after 6:15pm on a sunny weekday was even more horrifying, plus I reckon as it’s free and security is kind of relaxed it might be a case of ‘hold onto your valuables’.

But don’t let this put you off, the vibe is very beachy, laid back, Mediterranean cool, and with views of terraced houses and railway bridges beyond, it also still reminds you you’re right in the middle of the city, with your bare feet covered in sand. That gets a totes amaze from me straight away! Plus I love the strapline on their website: “You’ve got 99 problems but the beach aint one.” Gotta love an unashamed bit 0f clever wordplay!

It’s open 11am-11pm through July and August.
